West African Rice Company (WARC) is a Sierra Leonean social enterprise seeking to increase agricultural production levels through the empowerment and development of the local community. WARC uses an innovative approach in setting up a large commercial training farm where labourers receive three years of paid training in modern agricultural techniques to produce rice, maize and sorghum, with the goal that these trainees can return to their land after time spent on WARC’s farm and become highly effective smallholder producers.
